Shine on Diamond journals: making sure they’re forever

In the Australasia region, diamond open access journals are an important but undervalued part of the open access journal publishing system. They often lack infrastructure, funding and coordination. This workshop, which is being run as a satellite meeting as part of the Global Summit on Diamond Open Access being held in Mexico this week, will hear from those already involved in successful diamond OA initiatives, workshop what is needed for successful diamond OA journals, and develop a plan for necessary next steps in this region.

Panel session with participants from the Global Summit on Diamond Open Access and from successful Diamond OA publishing in Aotearoa New Zealand and Australia.

Hackathon on three topics in breakout rooms:

  • Discoverability: What does it mean and how is it achieved?
  • Infrastructure: What does a diamond journal need to succeed
  • Credibility: For journal editors, what you need to do to make your journal shine.

Final session – We will come together to discuss next steps for this region.
